Signs of Dehydration You Shouldn’t Ignore

September 8, 2026

Mild dehydration is common and easy to miss, but recognising the signs early can help you avoid the more serious effects of prolonged fluid loss.

Early Signs

Thirst, dry mouth, dark yellow urine, fatigue, and headache are among the earliest and most common signs of mild dehydration.

More Noticeable Signs

As dehydration progresses, you may notice dizziness, reduced urine output, rapid heartbeat, or confusion. These warrant prompt fluid replacement, and if severe or accompanied by other symptoms, medical attention.

Who’s at Higher Risk

Older adults, young children, people who are ill with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, and anyone exercising intensely in hot conditions face a higher risk of dehydration and should pay closer attention to fluid intake.
